IEC 60309 is the international standard that defines industrial plugs, sockets, and couplers for AC and DC use, focusing on safety and compatibility across voltages, frequencies, and applications. A key part of the standard is the clock face position (h), which identifies the orientation of the earth (ground) contact.
What Is the Clock Face Position?
When viewing an industrial socket from the front, the major keyway is always at the 6 o’clock position. The clock face position (h) refers to the angle of the earth contact relative to this reference point. This positioning ensures that incompatible voltages or frequencies cannot be accidentally connected.
Each clock position is associated with a specific voltage, frequency, or application.

Series I products are used in all European countries and some countries in South America, Asia, Australia and Africa. On the contrary, Series II products are mainly marketed in North America (USA, Mexico and Canada) and some countries in South America.
